Fishing City is located in Hechuan District, formerly known as Dianjiang. It was once the capital of the state of Ba during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Fishing City is located on Yushan in the southern part of Jialing River, surrounded by Jialing River, Fujiang River, and Qujiang River, and situated on steep cliffs. The city wall is built from giant stones and serves as a sturdy barrier to resist enemy attacks.
Fishing City is a national key cultural relic protection unit and one of the top ten cultural symbols in Chongqing. It covers an area of 2.5 kilometers and is also an ancient battlefield. There was a war in 1259 to defend this fishing city by besieging the Diaoyu Islands. On the one hand, this was the last battle between the Song Dynasty and the Mongol army. On the other hand, this is a war that has changed the history of China and the world.
The main attractions here include the gate, palace, military camp, and navy dock. At the same time, other attractions such as Fishing City Islands, Huguo Temple, and Xuanfo Temple are also open to the public. In addition, there are poems, reliefs, and inscriptions about the site that play an important role in culture and history.
The Diaoyu Islands are a miracle in the history of world wars. The powerful Mongolian army was heavily damaged under the castle. In 1259, the Mongolian army, led by Khan Mengge, attacked the castle on the Diaoyu Islands. Due to strong resistance from soldiers and civilians in Fishing City, Khan Mengo was seriously injured and killed by artillery fire. After the death of Mongol Khan, the Mongol army had to fight for the throne, which left them with no additional strength to attack the Southern Song Dynasty and Europe. The success of Fishing City helped the Southern Song Dynasty to continue its rule and also changed the world.
