The Chongqing Jianchuan Museum is located in Xiejiawan and is the first air defense cluster museum in China. The Chongqing Jianchuan Museum currently has 51 air raid shelters. In addition, it was also the former site of the Hanyang Arsenal built by Zhang Zhidong when he moved westward to Chongqing during the Westernization Movement. At the same time, it was also the location of the First Arsenal of the National Government’s Ordnance Bureau during the Anti Japanese War.
The museum consists of eight halls, including 24 air raid shelters. It includes eight themed halls, including the history of weapon development, the former site of the First Ordnance Factory (Hanyang Arsenal), the Anti Japanese War Exhibition Hall, the Chongqing Story Hall, the Folk Culture Hall, the Chinese Celebration Culture Hall, the Ticket Life Hall, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Hall.
The cultural relics exhibition displays nearly 40000 pieces of various cultural relics, including more than 60 national first-class cultural relics. Cultural relics mainly include modern historical materials and physical objects such as the Anti Japanese War, military industry, folk customs, and the Red Era (a period before China’s economic reform).
